Description

For Children's Health Month, the EJ IWG's Access and Awareness Webinar series is working to raise awareness of technical assistance and federal resources working to support children's environmental health in vulnerable communities. This webinar will include an introduction to The President's Task Force on Environmental Health Risks and Safety Risks to Children by the Department of Health and Human Services. The Task Force includes 17 federal departments and White House offices and addresses a number of priority areas including, climate change, asthma disparities, healthy homes, and chemical exposures.

EPA representatives from the Great Lakes Region will discuss the benefits of effective coordination between Environmental Justice and Children's Health, provide an overview of initiatives to address lead exposure, and share information about reducing childhood lead exposures. They will also connect the audience with resources, tools, and EPA guidance documents to help build capacity to address a range of lead exposure issues in communities around the country.

This webinar will also highlight the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Routes to School Program (SRTS) and how it continues to demonstrate success in reaching disadvantaged communities. The SRTS Team will focus on key aspects of the program including measures that support equitable distribution of safe routes funding and highlight successful projects that improved access to schools and other essential community services in neighborhoods with limited resources.

EJ IWG Background

Established by Executive Order 12898, the Federal Interagency Working Group on Environmental Justice (EJ IWG) comprises 17 federal agencies and White House Offices that work together to guide, support and enhance environmental justice and community-based activities. Check out the EJ IWG Webpage for more information.

The EJ IWG is hosting the Access & Awareness Series, a monthly event, to provide public access to the working group and to increase community awareness of federal agency environmental justice strategies and holistic community-based solutions to address environmental justice issues. This series will help the public gain a deeper understanding of how federal agencies are collaborating and what resources are available to anyone interested in improving the health, quality-of-life, and economic opportunities in overburdened communities.
